Before starting our social engagement project, we had a few
discussions on our project and had decided to go to Sekinchan
for 3 days and 2 nights and Hope Worldwide Malaysia for
our project.
We will spend our first day in Sekinchan, we will go to Yoke Kuan Secondary School, the only secondary school in Sekinchan to give a talk for the students there and also help out in some class decorating activity. On the second day, we planned to go to Sekinchan Methodist Church for a clean-up session. According to Pastor Chan, the person-in-charge of the church, they need volunteers to help them to clean up the church. Without any hesitation, we agreed to it and decided to go there on the second day. For the third day, we are going to clean up the Redang Beach. According to one of our members who is from Sekinchan, Redang Beach is a very famous tourist spot and because of that, it is now full of trashes. Thus, we decided to take an initiative to clean up the beach besides raising the awareness of the society on environmental cleanliness. Lastly, we decided to go to Hope Worldwide Sentul Timur on 9th of May to help out in a reading program. Hope Worldwide has brought great impacts to the underprivileged throughout the years. The reading program we are going to join is to help the children growing up in poverty to get a chance to be educated because we believe that everyone has the rights to receive education.

| A brief tentative |
After a few
discussions, we had come out with an idea to design a creative banner which
allowed us to have a memorable capturing section. Therefore, we had distributed
the jobs among us by preparing white cloth and some various type of painting
materials so as to ease the process to accomplish the banner. After sketching
the draft, we began to paint the banner under the lead of our team’s talented
artist, Su Xian. Everyone enjoyed the painting session very much. This could
not have been done without enthusiasm.
During the process, we shared our feelings, suggestions and expectations about the coming first day of social engagement. All of us were very excited about the activities we are going to have on the first day. Since most of us have never been to Sekinchan before, one of our members who is from Sekinchan shared what he knows about the small town including his childhood memories, famous foods, famous place to visit, life style and most important the paddy fields which can be seen all around Sekinchan with us.
At the end of the day, we finally completed our masterpiece. Although it was a tiring day, all of us had a really great time because throughout the process we get to know each other deeper and our bonding strengthened. Just can’t wait to start our social engagement two days later!
